Three Ways to Cleanse Your Nose When Perfume Shopping

Posted on

Buying a bottle of perfume for yourself or for a woman in your life can be an enjoyable experience that gives you an opportunity to evaluate all sorts of products. While the design of a particular bottle or even its sale price may initially catch your attention, smelling the perfume will always be the best way to evaluate whether it's the right choice. If you're planning to spend a lot of time browsing through different products and smelling most of them, it's a good idea to have a strategy for cleansing your nose between products. Here are three strategies that you can adopt.

Smell Some Coffee

Many people swear by smelling coffee as a way to cleanse their nose after checking out one type of perfume. If you smell one perfume immediately after another, the scent from the first product may still be lingering — thus making it difficult for you to get an accurate sense of how the second product actually smells. Many perfume shops have small bowls of coffee beans that you can smell periodically as you shop. If the store that you plan to visit doesn't take this approach, consider buying a coffee at the start of your shopping outing so that you can sniff it when needed.

Smell Your Skin

Another option is to smell your skin between sniffing different perfume products. While it's true that your skin may not have as much of a pronounced scent as a bowl of coffee beans, it may have a stronger scent than you realize. Don't be afraid to really push your nose into your skin — perhaps on your forearm or on the upper part of your elbow. Lots of people take this simple approach as a way of resetting their olfactory sense as they check out different types of perfume.

Step Outside

Don't be afraid to step outside when you feel that your nose could use a break. If you're visiting a perfume store with street access, you can easily walk out to the sidewalk and take a few deep breaths of fresh air. In a mall, it will take a little more time to walk to the mall exit, but this can be a good strategy for giving your nose a break. Taking a few minutes away from the perfume options can also allow you to think about what products have caught your attention and what you may wish to buy.
